This is another rhyme/story in the Alex, Dragon and Spider series and I think it's my favourite so far. I liked how the story built to the race and the tension that was created. I'm sure little slugs will enjoy this aspect, especially if they're of a competitive nature as they wait to see who'll win the race up the mountain. The rhyme works very well and the illustrations match it perfectly. Plus I do enjoy the games at the end. Another fine children's book from Natalie Finnigan.
Always Be Us Three is a touching book about a child experiencing the break up of his parents' marriage. It's in the form of a rhyme and is told in a very clear, tender and empathetic way to give support to children that may be experiencing the same thing - something many find traumatic. I myself was rather traumatised when Lenny the Slug left my home... if only this book had been around for me when that terrible event happened. I still weep to this day.
The illustrations match the rhyme perfectly. Another winning combination from Natalie Finnigan and Gina Rahman.
I quite like dragons. Not too fond of spiders. A spider once bit me and I was scratching for a week!
Anyway, this is a charming, fun rhyme that will definitely appeal to young readers with cute illustrations that will hopefully inspire little frogs to learn to play an instrument.
There's even a fun game at the end!
